“Good morning, what can I get you today?” he smiled at their first customer that morning. the customer rattled off their order while he punched in the numbers and got to work brewing the coffee.

the rich and cozy smell filled the air inside the cute little coffee shop as sunlight and people streamed in.

“Don’t forget to add the cream before you mix,” he told a newer worker kindly. she nodded gratefully, and he returned to his post at the cash register, busily working on some supply forms. a pair of heels clicking up the line announced the arrival of another customer. he looked up, immediately pasting a smile on his face – and froze.

she was standing before him, in real life, with color in her cheeks and sparkles in her sea green eyes. the days when he had run his fingers through her auburn hair suddenly seemed like yesterday instead of years ago.

“Um…uh…what can I…uh get you this morning?” he stuttered.

she smiled, and he felt his knees go weak. “I’ll have a large mocha cappuccino with extra whipped cream, please,” she requested in her soft voice. he swallowed, remembering the nights when that smooth voice in his ear was all he’d ever wanted.

with trembling fingers, he punched in the digits and looked up. “That’ll be $4.57, but don’t worry, it’s on me.”

she raised an eyebrow, giving him a grateful smile. “Oh thank you….” she glanced at his name tag. “Marcus.” she frowned, a confused expression flitting across her face. “Do I know you?”

his heart jumped into his throat. he swallowed several times, willing the painful ache in his chest to disappear. a few seconds hung in the air, waiting. he exhaled.

“No,” he smiled sadly. “No, you don’t.”

Born with it. (Part 1)

I was born with it. Simple.

I was born with the gift. The gift – the kind that the universe grants to one only once in many lifetimes.

everyone in society is taught and educated about how they have a soulmate – one who is the cause of their laughter, the antidote for their sadness, the love of their life. but that theory has never been completely proven.

until now.

if you could gaze through my eyes, you would see that I can perceive tiny, delicate threads connecting two people together. no one else can see those lines. just me.

I call them “strands of fate.” they can never be broken – they are made of a substance that this world has not discovered yet.

these strands are different colors depending on the two people – sometimes they are the color of the sea in a fierce storm, or the color of the honey colored light that filters through my window at precisely 4:12 pm on a Wednesday evening.

I still do not know the reason why they are different colors, but I hope to know someday from Them. For now, I live quietly with my gift – I have been instructed not to tell anyone, not even my own family. I know that They mean well, so I will follow Their command.

So I do not tell my best friend that the soft eyed, brown haired boy she is in love with is bound by those strands to another girl.

I do not tell the barista at the coffee shop that there is a soft blue thread tying her to the shy, awkward boy that comes in every so often just to see her smile.

I do not tell my parents that they are connected to each other by a silver thread that can never be broken – a clear sign that the plans of the universe had worked out. I love seeing their thread sparkle in the light – it gives me hope that maybe someday, I will find the person at the other end of my thread.

Every night, before I fall asleep, I hold my glistening strand carefully in the palm of my hands. It is of a color that I have never seen before – there are no words to describe it. if you care, it is like the passion of two lovers, the beauty of a rose, the calmness of a lilac sunset all combined together.

and every night I whisper:

“someday…I will find you.”

that one word can trigger a million different meanings:

it could be a place – your childhood home where you grew up.

it could be a certain moment, locked away inside a box of time that you regularly open, just to feel all the emotions rushing back and bringing a smile to your face.

it could be a specific feeling – like that one time you and your best friend stayed up talking til 2 am, and finally falling asleep hours later with the taste of that ben and jerry’s caramel ice cream on your tongue.

it could be a person – someone that sends you into spiral of joy, nervousness, and happiness all at once. someone who, just by seeing them or hearing their voice, refreshes your entire soul and body.

or it could even be

yourself.

so before you build a home within anyone or anything, remember that you should find home within yourself.

your happiness does not depend on another person, so don’t put yourself in that empty prison.

repeat after me: your happiness does NOT depend on how another person treats you.

when you are nervous, falling apart, and afraid, pray. learn to forgive and accept yourself; even better, to love yourself. learn to love others. and finally, love God, because dwelling in Him is the most peaceful thing that you’ll ever experience~

Winter is Coming…

what to do? well, here I’ve kindly compiled a list of fun winter activities to do with your family and friends :) enjoy!

  1. Drive around the neighborhood or the city and look at the Christmas lights while blasting the Christmas playlist (one of my favorites) For extra brownie points, do it while dressed in your Christmas onesies or pajamas ;)Christmas-City-Lights-Tumblr-09.jpg

2. Go ice skating! It doesn’t matter if you spend 95% of the time skating around on your behind…the fun time you’ll have will be worth it ;)

3. Gather some of your friends and spend the day baking treats ^^ you’ll most likely end up having a flour fight but it’s all about the memories right? Plus, you can sit around a toasty warm fire and enjoy your treats afterwards! tumblr_md75mnirkq1r8n67w

4. This one is super cozy & fun: build a fort out of pillows, blankets, chairs – whatever you can find! It’s lots of fun deciding among yourselves how you want the fort to look – you might even have a pillow fight along the way :3  For a tumblr touch – hang fairy lights around the inside of the fort and admire your work ^.^ large.jpg

5. Build and decorate gingerbread houses together! *cough* I have had a terrible experience with gingerbread houses where the icing got everywhere and nothing stuck together. The end result barely even looked like a gingerbread house, but DON’T LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU! Just…don’t eat too much candy ;)

tumblr_mflfqzijkf1r4v0u8o1_500

6. Finally, make delicious s’mores together around a flickering fire. You’ll have a fabulous time eating the gooey confections and talking and laughing.smores-2.jpg

well, that’s it for now! maybe next time I’ll be back with gift ideas? stick around and you’ll find out ;)

The Huntington Library

A few days ago I visited the Huntington Library in LA! It is largely famous, not only for its books but also for its gorgeous botanical garden. Yup, we are continuing the LA theme from The Broad Museum :) If you haven’t read it yet, you can click on the link right here: The Broad Museum. Enjoy the pictures I got with my trusty Nikon! Also, I tried a new photo formatting – do you like it?

I hope you liked this post, and I definitely recommend going to the Huntington Library whenever you’re in LA! They have a variety of gardens and exhibits that could take all day to enjoy. It’s a great place to get away from the city and yet be in the city at the same time lol..It’s also a really good way to get exercise *cough* I walked about 5 miles in a few hours. If you go to the H, tag your post with #AtTheH so I can see them! Love you all~

That Girl Over There

The Window in the Lighthouse

She was trapped. Trapped inside the tall brick lighthouse that stood, all alone, on the tiny island. She couldn’t remember how she got here, only a vague memory feeling pressure on her head and then blacking out while walking home from her mannerism classes. When she woke up, she had found herself lying on the cold wooden floor in the ancient lighthouse. Gingerly, the young girl named Willow now sat up, rubbing her temples.  “Hello?” She quavered, glancing nervously into the mysterious shadows. Her large brown eyes searched the room, noting the cobwebs in the corners, the dusty shelves, and the faded wallpaper. Obviously, someone hasn’t lived here for awhile.

 Willow frowned.

That didn’t make sense – didn’t the lighthouse keeper usually live in the lighthouse? She decided to explore her surroundings a bit more throughly. Carefully, she got to her feet and brushed off her full skirts. Her silk shoes slid across the floor, barely making a sound. She slipped off her expensive gloves and tucked them into the pocket of her petticoat. Suddenly, a floorboard creaked above her, and she whirled around nervously.

 “Who’s there?”

She heard nothing. Then her eyes fell on an iron-hinged door that looked like it hadn’t been opened in ages. Eagerly, Willow headed towards it. Maybe once she was outside, she would recognize her surroundings and know how to get home. Creak. Creak. Willow twisted the doorknob this way and that, but her efforts were fruitless. The door refused to budge. A feeling of helpless overwhelmed her and a tear threatened to spill onto her cheeks. Groaning, Willow sank down onto the floor and leaned her head against the wall.

And that’s when she saw the window.

“I wonder if I can break the window open and climb out that way,” she thought aloud. Making up her mind, she ran to the window and peered out. What she saw shocked her.

Normal people like her were walking around outside, admiring the sea, pointing and clicking small black rectangles over and over again. Willow’s eyes got bigger when she saw how they were dressed. The women were wearing tight pants and tips instead of the proper, full dresses that every woman should wear. Some men were even wearing shorts! @_@ Frantically, Willow’s eyes roved over the scene. Strange contraptions with wheels lined the sidewalk and people were actually using them as a mode of transportation! Her hand flew to her mouth.

“It couldn’t…it can’t be,” she whispered.

Had she traveled into the future somehow? How was that even possible? Her mind was racing around in a whirlwind when all of a sudden she heard a voice behind her:

“What are you doing here?”

Thanks for reading this freewrite :) Yes, I know, I have been obsessed with freewrites lately. #sorrynotsorry I thought of this story after I took the above picture of a window in a lighthouse that is now a tourist attraction in California~ I hope you enjoyed it, and please let me know if you do by liking this post ^_^

Ordinary Life Doesn’t Interest Me…

hiiiiii! I felt so guilty for not blogging….you guys don’t know this, but I have this ache in my heart when I’m not here on WordPress. That’s how much I love you guys <3

Often in life, I get bored with the everyday routine. It’s school, music, school, music, school, music, etc… Lately, I’ve been realizing that I’m missing something. I haven’t been content with my ordinary life…I want something better.

I need to let go and allow God to guide my life.

I need to surrender myself and let Him take control.

I need to stop trying to be someone I’m not to make people love me…because only the true friends will love me for who I am.

No one on Earth could love me more than God could. If all the fraternal love that ever existed in the history of the world was added up, it would only be a tiny tiny stream compared to God’s love for me. Isn’t that mind blowing? Like seriously. Just try to imagine it.

And so I’ve come to realize….God is the missing piece in my life. I’ve fallen out of touch with Him, and I want to get connected again. All the worldly pleasures I’ve been trying to attain will only leave me empty and unsatisfied. Trying to be someone I’m not isn’t going to make Him happy. He created me in His own perfect way, and trying to be someone else is only trying to go against His will.

Just remember, you’re perfect just the way you are. You and I were created for a reason, and we are living this life for a reason. Every piece of your life that seems like it has “fallen” in place has not simply come to be. God has a special interest in you, and He is planning your life, detail by detail. ~hugs~
